In California

The waves were steady and high and the whaling boat took us out as we scattered mother's ashes on the deep. Do you believe in the certainty of the Resurrection? I do. " At The Burial of the Dead at SEA" 1928 Book of Common Prayer " Unto Almighty God we commend the soul of our sister departed Patricia, and we commit her body to the deep; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection unto eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ; at whose coming in glorious majesty to judge the world, the sea shall give up her dead; and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in him shall be changed, and made like unto his glorious body; according to the mighty working whereby he is able to subdue all things unto himself." Now those are some powerful words! I do not see any doubt here!

Resurrection during pre Lent?

Interesting reading this Sunday for the Epistle. I Corinthians 15:1-11 " if you hold fast"= the better translation is " if you keep in memory" This reminds me of the joke sent to me this week about the elderly couple. The wife asked, " When you are in the kitchen , bring me some short cake with strawberries and whip cream." " Do you need to write it down?" NO. He said to each time she asked on each item. In a few minutes he brought her eggs and bacon. She siad, " Where's the toast?" Our memories are not very good , are they! As Christians we live in a world that values young persons and good looking people. We forget that we will not be here that long really. The bodies we have now will go and crumble. But we will receive a new body that is resurrected. This is something even the Greeks questioned in Acts 17. They believed in a soul that would last, but not the body! The soul will be re-clothed in an immortal bo

Pre-Lent or not?

The current Church lectionary has really skipped the Lenten traditional Sunday of the gesima Sundays. This Sundays you put on purple & did some pre stuff for Lent. That makes sense to me. Now we just jump into Lent on Ash Wed, and some Churches do not do that either. I guess Lent is out of season. In the Church many began fasting from the 10 days before Ash WED. 60 days before lent others went meatless. Interesting. The Church today is using green mostly until Ash WED which is purple. I guess I do not have a big issue with that as long as you at least look at Lent . Skipping Lent is dumb. No Cross, no crown.
