Pentecost

Pentecost   " It is the Day of the Spirit poured forth...the characteristics of the Day are those of visions, dreams and prophesying...We need to fear if there is an absence of visions and dreams.   It is because we are not responsive to the Spirit." G Campbell Morgan, Acts 1.  From the Acts we read of Salvation being here available to all nationalities, people and cultures.  We read of dreams, visions and prophesies all fulfilled in the Death, Life and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all who believe in Him.   The Spirit enables us to believe.  Without Him we are unable to respond to the Gospel.  Who can change a sinner's heart?  A. The Holy Spirit alone. Peter gives the sermon on Pentecost to the Church.   "It prophesied of the time when ‘men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation’ should lift up their voices to Him who has purchased them unto God with His blood. It began a communication of the Spirit to

Ascension

Ascension Sunday  Luke reminds us that after the forty days of the Resurrection appearances on earth," He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven." 24:51 .  Hebrews 4 :14, " Seeing that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession." Peter tells us to humble ourselves for Christ " is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him." 3: 22  What struck me this week was 5:7 " Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you." 1. What cares do we have? The word is divided from the whole, or fracturing a person's being into parts (biblehub.com) In other words, worries. Luke 8:14 tells about the seed being sown, and some fell among thorns are they which have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares, and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. " Anxiety tends so to

Mother's Day

Mother's Day  I found this while thinking about Mother's Day. Also it is Rogation Sunday, asking Sunday from latin rogare where we ask for the fruits and crops of the earth. --- Today is a day when we honor our Moms. We learn many things from our Moms. "My mother taught me religion. She used to say things like, "You better pray that comes out of the carpet." My mother taught me medicine: "If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to freeze that way." My mother taught me how to be a contortionist: "Will you look at the dirt on the back of your neck!" My mother taught me to appreciate a job well done: "If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning!" My mother taught me about genetics: "You are just like your father! My mother taught me logic: "Because I said so, that's why." sermon.com mother's day 1.Our I Peter reading today talks about the spirit and heart of

A Fearless Rest in a Mansion John 14

Easter 5.  John 14:1-14 “ Trouble-free Mansions” John 14 How do we limit God? I imagine we could say in many ways. Can God be limited? Well, no. The Scriptures paint a picture of God that shows Him to be with Sovereign power in all areas of the world. He created it. He sustains it. He orders it . “ Have you not known ? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not grow faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable…” Isaiah 40:28 (ESV) Yet we limit Him. But that does not mean He is limited. In John 14 , our Gospel for this 5th Sunday of Easter, Jesus tells of a Mansion that has many rooms. “In my Father’s house are many rooms..” John 14:2 The word mansion is actually  lodging, dwelling-place, room, abode, mansion. 3438 monḗ (from 3306 /ménō, "to remain, abide") – an abiding dwelling-place (i.e. not transitory). 3438 /monḗ ("an individual dwelling") is only used twice in the NT (both times by Christ).
