The physician , the prayers, the preaching in Mark

Mark 1:29-39 Stands Out
What stands out in this ?

Jesus as the Physician. Prayer, and Preaching that He did.

Jesus goes into Peter's house and his mother in law " lay sick of fever" . 1:30 " He came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her..."
Many seek healing in their lives, and perhaps do not find it. Healing in body, mind and spirit? The healing of extreme difficult memories? Therapeutic is the word.
Notice His touch . He took her by the hand.

1:34 He healed many, and cast out demons.
Are we healers ? We too must be this. Or are we not?
How can we receive healing in our lives? In His presence . It seems for me that many of the prayers of the BCP heal.

For Quiet Confidence
O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we will be saved, in quietness and confidence will be our strength: By the might of your Spirit lift us, we pray, to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance
O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Those We Love
Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to your never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come, knowing that you are doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2. Prayer. We already moved into this....but listen, " 35And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. " This is a beautiful sentence of Scripture, is it not?
Seeing a place that is set aside is important, and a time, with prayer to God who can hear us in our concerns, distresses, thanksgivings , confessions of short comings as well as our hopes and fears.

Sometimes it seems as though our prayers do not go anywhere. We may just sit and listen without hearing back. Who has not gone into a sanctuary and poured out concerns and worries? Tears too can come . We feel loss and separation . Some have gone ahead of us.

And help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray. ~John Keble

I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. ~Abraham Lincoln

3. Preaching--1:38
And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. 39And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

Preach is to announce. 1:14-15 " Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God. and saying: repent ye, and believe in the gospel.
It is to give out good news to those who have never heard it. The salvation of God is here.

Do not these all go together? Healing as physicians of the soul and body, Prayer and preaching?
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
